The game was originally released for the Macintosh only, but a Windows version was released in 2000. The game is the first to take place in the Space Marine universe, a fictional setting based on the Warhammer 40,000 fictional universe. The game also has a sequel which was released in 2000 as the console port World in Conflict 2: World at War.
Gameplay
There are two modes of gameplay, Campaign and Multiplayer, while in Campaign the player plays through the storyline. Multiplayer mode consists of two different sub-modes, one which has the basic mission editor and the other which has a map editor.
Space Marine has many similarities to other ground-based first person shooters and relies on typical enemy tactics such as holding strong positions and using cover, but some new tactics were added, such as the ability to spawn vehicles, deploy infantry, and call in support (e.g. transport-type hovercraft) to fight in the multiplayer mode of the game. Additionally, all Marines can be spawned as a powerful warrior type or as a weaker melee character.
Firing
Space Marine does not employ any type of "weapon spinning". Instead, each weapon has a default firing mode, plus a number of secondary firing modes, and the player's actions determine which modes are available to him. Using a weapon that is not in its default firing mode (for example, a pistol in full automatic fire) is considered an act of stupidity.

Space Marine is set on the planet Urth in the distant future. On Urth, Space Marines are the protectors of humanity from the overwhelming armies of the Chaos Legions. This war is between the Space Marines and the Chaos, a race of aliens who wish to conquer the galaxy.
